In most cases – when certain defects are created in the TFS or HP QC – the problem is that two different platforms are not communicating with each other. This is usually and primarily an issue to managing testing teams who have different test management tools. They work in the same organization but are lacking decent collaboration with each other which can – and will – cause inefficiency.
Where the HP ALM Synchronizer finds its way in
The ideal solution to this problem would be an automatic synchronization of Defects that are related to each environment making a huge manual work and inefficient work go away.
Thankfully, these kinds of solutions are a reality. In this blog post, we’re going to give you specific insights in the way this HP ALM Synchronizer can perform a defect synchronization between HP QC and TFS.
As you can notice in the image above, the HP ALM Synchronizer manages the synchronization and communication between the two endpoints and retrieves and stores information in an integrated database. The HP ALM Synchronizer itself is made out of the HP ALM server and HP ALM Client, the system requirements of both are very low so you can easily install them on the same machine.
Simple but effective
Now, let’s continue with the actual synchronization process:
- Open the HP ALM Client and create a synchronization link – in our case the Defect link – between the project in HP QC and TFS.
- Next, specify the mapping of the fields that are going to be synchronized. Note: you also have the additional options which allow you to set rules and add filters.
- Run the synchronization manually or schedule an automated Synchronizer. Also, depending on your need, choose between an incremental Synchronization or a full Synchronization.
After each synchronization run, you are able to consult a report where all details of the synchronization are listed. HP ALM Synchronizer is a great and easy tool for achieving defect synchronization between HP QC and TFS.
